iBirdSongs™ was designed to be a companion to your printed field guide rather than a replacement. It focuses on bird song, something printed field guides have not been able to present as effectively because of the limitations of print. iBirdSongs™ will be significantly better for bird song than anything that has previously been offered.

The current generation of field guides on mobile devices do offer some advantages over printed guides for the display of visual information. These include the convenience of their compact size and their ability to return a list of birds matching your search criteria. However the screen sizes and resolutions of today's popular devices are pretty limited when you compare them with the size and detail of a page spread from a printed field guide. So are mobile guides more convenient for visual content? Yes. Better? Not yet.
